PageSnap is private by design.
The PageSnap Safari extension processes captures locally on your Mac. This notice explains what the extension accesses, what remains on your device, and what happens if you contact support.
PageSnap Overview
PageSnap is a Safari extension for macOS that captures webpages as PNG images. PageSnap is designed to perform its screenshot work locally on your Mac.
The PageSnap extension does not:
- Require you to create an account.
- Upload screenshots or webpage content to Mishkat or a PageSnap server.
- Collect analytics or advertising identifiers.
- Collect, store, or sell your browsing history.
- Request persistent access to every website you visit.
How Screenshots Are Processed
When you choose Full Page, Visible Area, or Select Area, PageSnap temporarily accesses the active Safari tab at your request. It may measure the page, scroll it, capture visible sections, and assemble those sections into a PNG in extension and webpage memory.
Screenshot tiles, the completed PNG, and the scaled preview remain on your Mac. PageSnap does not transmit them over the internet or make them available to Mishkat.
The finished screenshot opens in a local PageSnap viewer tab. If automatic download is enabled, Safari is asked to save the PNG to your Mac. Any PNG you save is then governed by the storage, backup, sharing, and security choices you make on your device.
Safari Extension Permissions
PageSnap requests only the permissions needed for its user-initiated capture features:
- Active Tab: Provides temporary access to the current Safari tab after you use PageSnap and allows Safari to capture its visible viewport.
- Scripting: Allows PageSnap to run its capture tools on the active page so it can measure, scroll, select, restore, and assemble the screenshot.
- Storage: Saves only your PageSnap settings, including automatic download, scrollbar inclusion, and capture delay, in Safari’s local extension storage.
PageSnap does not request host permissions, access to all websites, or a browser downloads permission. Safari controls website-level access and may ask you to approve PageSnap for a site.
Local Storage and Retention
PageSnap stores capture preferences locally using Safari’s extension storage. These settings are not sent to Mishkat.
While the original webpage remains loaded, PageSnap may retain up to the two newest capture results in memory so you can save a PNG again. Closing or reloading that webpage releases those capture results. A PageSnap viewer tab keeps its reconstructed PNG only until that viewer is closed or reloaded.
Removing PageSnap from Safari or clearing its extension data removes the locally saved PageSnap settings under Safari’s controls. PNG files you already saved must be managed separately through macOS.
Support Requests
The PageSnap extension itself does not send support information. If you contact us by email or submit the form on the PageSnap Support page, we may receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, macOS version, Safari version, issue category, and message.
We use support information to respond to your request, investigate the reported problem, improve PageSnap, and maintain appropriate support records. Please do not send passwords, private webpage content, or sensitive screenshots.
Visits to pages on mishkat.ca, including PageSnap support and privacy pages, are also subject to the general Mishkat Privacy Policy, which explains the website’s data practices.
Third-Party Services and Websites
PageSnap captures the webpage that Safari renders when you ask it to do so. Websites you visit may collect or process information under their own privacy policies; PageSnap does not control those websites.
Safari, macOS, and App Store distribution are provided by Apple and may be subject to Apple’s own privacy terms. PageSnap does not use third-party advertising, analytics, or screenshot-processing services inside the extension.
Children’s Privacy
PageSnap is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. The extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your Choices and Controls
You can:
- Choose whether to enable PageSnap in Safari.
- Approve or deny PageSnap access to individual websites through Safari.
- Choose when to start a capture and which capture mode to use.
- Turn automatic download on or off.
- Close or reload the original webpage and viewer to release in-memory captures.
- Remove PageSnap or clear its locally stored settings using Safari’s controls.
- Contact us to ask about, correct, or delete personal information you submitted in a support request, subject to legal and operational requirements.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when PageSnap’s features, permissions, or privacy practices change. The latest version will appear on this page with an updated date.
